Sk8 2 Live is a skateboarding hub. It’s a gathering of talent with one thing in common, the skateboard. Though we are skaters first and foremost, we are also photographers, artists, filmmakers, editors, content creators, writers, designers, developers, illustrators, architects, and more.
My name is Andres Alfonso (aka Afar25) and this is my attempt to bring together every single skater I’ve met in the 21+ years I’ve been riding a skateboard. The idea is simple: put shine on all skateboarders, not just the famous ones who already get their well-deserved shine in the big magazines and media outlets. I’m talking about the every day skateboarder, the one who never “made it” but kept at it just as long as some of the most beloved professionals. Because who’s to say that someone riding a board for 20 years is not as passionate as a professional doing the same? Someone who’s not paid to skate is choosing to spend their hard earned money to keep skating. I’ve always thought about skateboarding the way I do about art, anyone can do it, no one can force you, you have to make the choice yourself, so you’re the one taking the step to do it. It’s personal. While you do skate with a crew, it is not a “team sport”, it’s not a sport at all. Like Jason Dill famously said on Transworld’s Feedback “[skateboarding] is not a sport, there’s no sportsmanship about it, I mean there is to a certain degree, but, it’s a lifestyle”. So it’s on you to skate, to learn, to advance and get better. It’s also a way of life: you Skate to Live and you Live to Skate. It’s that cycle of balance.
[skateboarding] is not a sport, there’s no sportsmanship about it, I mean there is to a certain degree, but, it’s a lifestyle”
Jason Dill, Transworld Feeback
I will be sharing my experiences with written articles, illustrations, videos, photos, animations, etc., and will try my best to relate to the passion I share for skateboarding and how several of us go through similar things in the world of wooden boards with wheels. A staff will accompany me on this journey. We will start small and grow from here. They will be introduced individually and then take over their “section” as we start to build the hub.
Submissions will also be featured and encouraged, please contact us if you would like to participate.
SK8 2 Live is a place where I can share what skateboarding means to me and hopefully it becomes a platform where you can do the same.
Content will be written in both English and Spanish.
